About Isle of Man

While not listed as a major getaway for a beach holiday, for individuals interested in exploring a less popular tourist destination that is rich in history and culture, the Isle of Man may be a great option for a little rest and relaxation.

The best times to visit this destination are between April and September and there is much to do and see. If you are planning a holiday that takes you away from the rush of the city and where time stops, at least for a little while, then this location will probably be perfect.

Doing Business / Investing in Isle of Man

Located in the centre of the British Isles, in the Irish Sea, the Isle of Man is an internally self-governing dependent territory of the Crown that is not part of the United Kingdom. Tynwald, the island’s 1000 year old Parliament, makes its own laws and oversees all internal administration, fiscal and social policies. Offshore banking, manufacturing and tourism are key sectors of the island’s economy which has undergone major changes to its structure over the last two decades. The Manx Government's policy of offering incentives to high-technology companies and financial institutions to locate on the island has paid off leading to a well-balanced economy. Banking now contributes about 45% to the Manx gross national product.

Isle of Man Bank

The island's banking industry is dominated by subsidiaries or branches of the main UK clearing banks and some foreign banks. The majority of banks in the Isle of Man are engaged in providing private banking services to UK expatriates and to foreign nationals. The services offered often extend beyond deposit taking to establishing and administering trusts and managing the underlying companies and assets held by those trusts, including investment management.

The Island's positive image has been further reinforced by Moody's and Standard & Poor's "AAA" accreditation.

Rich Cultural History

What makes the Isle of Man unique is the fact that there is historical evidence that it has been inhabited before 6500 BC! The Norse and Vikings called parts of the Isle of Man home all those centuries ago, and there are remnants of this scattered throughout the island. The history of the Isle of Man is rich within information about the Kings that ruled from Scotland and England, about the Neolithic culture there as well as the influences of the Celtic and Viking nations.

For such a little island, the cultural and history heritage that the Isle of Man has is astounding. A visit to the island will allow you to explore some of this history including the remnants of castles that were built centuries ago, the burial mounds that continue to exist across the plains of the island and the government has taken great efforts to ensure that there is a systematic maintenance of the history and records as can be seen in a visit to any museum on the island.
