The other option is to rent a camper for the duration of your stay. This means you will not only be able to travel throughout the island but also have the option of setting up for the night in any number of locations. There are a variety of campsites available with toilet facilities and you will need to book your night’s stay with the relevant organization.
If you have your own camper, you will have to contact the local authorities for permission to bring this in, and you must also include information about your dates of arrival and departure as well as where the camper or caravan will be sited. The application should be submitted about two weeks in advance and you will be able to collect your permit at the Steam Packet Company on arrival, although always check that approval has been given before travelling!
