Isle of Man Hotels
Hotels on The Isle of Man reflect typical Manx hospitality... a warm welcome amongst friends.
Whether you're looking for budget accommodation such as camping, or luxury hotels, the Island can accommodate you.
All accommodation providers on the Island must be registered with the Department of Tourism, who rate all establishments annually. Hotels are given a rating from 1 to 5 Stars, and Guest Accommodation (which includes Guesthouses, Inns, Farmhouses and Bed & Breakfast) is rated from 1 to 5 diamonds. Self-catering accommodation is rated according to facilities and services using a scale of 1 to 5 Keys, and has a quality assessment of either Approved, Commended, Highly Commended or Deluxe
Registration and Grading Commission
The Registration and Grading Commission is a committee of the Department of Tourism & Leisure with delegated responsibility from the Minister of Tourism & Leisure for the registration and rating assessment of tourism premises. The Isle of Man operates compulsory registration of all tourist premises under the Tourist Act 1975. Current registration fees are under the Tourist (General) (Fees) (Amendment) Regulations 2002.

All registered tourist premises display a Registration Certificate and external signage showing the rating awarded for the current registration year i.e. 12th February 2004 to 11th February 2005. There are currently 5 tourist premises registers for hotels, guest accommodation, self-catering accommodation, holiday hostels and camping sites. Each register has to comply with Statutory Ratings Standards. The Isle of Man star hotel rating and diamond guest accommodation rating standards are harmonised with those operated by Visit Britain, the AA and RAC motoring organisations.
Hotels can achieve a 1-5 star rating, guest accommodation a 1-5 diamond rating. Holiday hostels receive a Listed Classification and Grading assessment and camping sites have a listed or 1-5 key classification and grading system. Each tourist premises receives an annual independent inspection either by overnight or day assessment to check that statutory requirements are being met and to confirm their rating.
10 tourist premises on the Isle of Man currently have an Access 2 or Access 3 rating under the Accessible Scheme which assists wheelchair or restricted mobility visitors.
Hotels and guest accommodation are now eligible for a prestigious Gold or Silver Award. 4 guest accommdodation premises have been awarded the new Gold Award for providing top quality and service to visitors.
In addition, the Registration & Grading Commission produce statisics of the tourist accommodation industry and offer a free advisory service, not just to registered proprietors but to potential proprietors who are thinking of setting up in the industry. The tourist accommodation industry is witnessing dramatic change on the Isle of Man. Alongside traditional resort accommodation the trend is now towards quality bed and breakfast accommodation and rural self-catering accommodation. The industry is under constant adjustment to provide a quality product which meets the current needs and expectations of increasingly discerning visitors to the Isle of Man.
