Getting to Isle of Man
Air and sea transport links are available between the British mainland as well as Ireland and the Isle of Man. Flights and ferries are in continuous supply, both to and from the Isle of Man, and the links are serviced every single day of the week. There may be some small service restrictions in November to January based on the weather conditions so it is generally advisable to plan ahead during these months. Otherwise, in months with large volumes of offshore tourists coming to the Isle of Man, there are more travel options than you would be able to fathom. Generally the tourist onslaught is experienced somewhere from June to September.
In case you are planning to travel to the Isle of Man then you have two clear options that is either air or sea as mentioned before. If you are more of a sailor than a flier, you would be pleased to find out that the Isle of Man is served by both fast crafts and by conventional ferries, as well as cruises with stopovers at the Isle of Man. Deciding on what type of craft to board is more of a personal choice than anything else. However, as a general guideline one can keep in mind that getting to the Isle of Man by conventional boats and ferries takes from four to five hours, both from the British Isles and Ireland.
Ferry Services
The island’s own ferry operator is known as the "Isle of Man Steam Packet Company" in case you decide to travel with them. Moreover, you can expect a ferry to and out of the Isle of Man all year around. Travellers from the British Isles also have the amazing option of travelling through train to a respective port before boarding a ferry to the Isle of Man. This service is better known as the "Sail Rail" train and ferry service and these special tickets are available on train stations throughout the British Isles as well as the Isle of Man. This service operates continuously all year around and both ways though the passenger can choose between one-way tickets and two-way tickets without any hassle. Probably, the best part of this service is moving from your nearest train station straight to the Isle of Man train station and back accordingly without any waits or hassles like those at airports.
In comparison, if one were to board a fast craft then the approximate travel time would be reduced by half to two thirds becoming some two to three hours. The only stipulation is that these fast crafts are generally only available in the summer months as supplementary crafts for handling large tourist volumes. Other than these concerns, the only other major concern is the cost, which you could confirm with either a local tour operator or the website of the port that you plan to board at.
On another note, it must also be related that most people generally choose to travel to and from the Isle of Man by sea, because you can easily carry pets and bikes along and there is little hassle of getting in and out of a seaport in comparison to an airport. Since the Isle of Man has so much lovely natural scenery and great hiking, this should be a consideration.
Travelling by Air
However, if you still believe that travelling by air would be more suitable to you, then it should be kept in mind that the Isle of Man is serviced by one airport only located at Ronaldsway. There are regular flights from this airport to the British Isles, Ireland and a large number of destinations in Europe. For one thing, there are a reasonably large number of airlines operating to the Isle of Man including Aer Arann, Blue Islands, Flybe, Manx 2, EasyJet, Loganair and the rates for most operators are nearly the same. Another thing is that the Isle of Man has a chartered aircrafts operator too known as Woodgate Aviation operating out of the Ronaldsway airport with reasonable prices as well as aircrafts that are available on short notice.

Things to Consider
Along with the options listed above, there are some other ancillary factors that you need to look into before boarding any crafts to the Isle of Man. Travel to the Isle of Man is dictated by visa requirements for various countries and regions. In case you are a British national, an Irish national or a European national then you can move freely to and from the Isle of Man. However, it is worth mentioning that you should have at least photographic identification with you especially if you are planning to travel by air. Anyone planning to travel to the Isle of Man from outside the European Union should check for visa requirements in order to avoid a sordid situation. This is equally applicable if you are planning to visit the Isle of Man through Britain or Ireland. It must be borne in mind that a British visa is not equated to an Isle of Man visa due to the structure of governance so please check ahead before you travel.
Moreover, the Isle of Man authorities advise to check for comprehensive health and travel insurance before you travel. This stipulation applies equally to visitors from the United Kingdom, as some insurance companies do not cover the Isle of Man in their insurance plans. To avoid a messy situation later, it would be best to check with your insurance company or agent to find out if the Isle of Man is covered by your insurance policy.
